QUICK LINKS

At the present time Cockermouth Angling Association enjoys most of its fishing on the Rivers Derwent and Cocker under lease from the Castle Fisheries and other riparian owners, for which the association make annual payments.

The Association purchased its first fishing rights on the River Cocker in 1972 and on the River Derwent in 1984. It also leases further fishing rights on both rivers from various riparian owners.

Castle Fisheries administer the local fishing interests of the Egremont Estates. For many years this has included the provision of fishing for local residents, through this Association, at reasonable cost.  This is why the permits to fish the River Derwent are issued by the Castle Fisheries and specify the conditions upon which permits are issued and the stretches of water available for fishing. The same rules and conditions apply to members fishing other waters on the Rivers Derwent and Cocker controlled by the Association.

The Association also owns a Brown and Rainbow Trout fishery at Cogra Moss near Lamplugh for which season, weekly and daily tickets are available to members at preferential rates. Holders of River Derwent and River Cocker permits are eligible for complimentary sporting permits to fish Cogra Moss. This water is regularly stocked throughout the season.

Members are reminded that appropriate Environment Agency licences are required for all fishing.
